In 2005, Go Daddy aired a risqué SuperBowl Ad. According to Bob Parsons, Godaddy's CEO, following the launch of the Go Daddy SuperBowl commercial their sexy ads have become know as GoDaddy-Esque. The 2005 ad created quite a stir and after airing during the SuperBowl the ad was censored by the network from future airing. Of course, this made it a PR hit, according to Parsons, their censored ad and the extended version was viewed millions of times online. Godaddy got much more out of their ad then they anticipated, their Brand got an edge and the news media went crazy.
Watch their censored ad here, and then read on to find out what has happened for the 2006 SuperBowl:
The Story continued in 2006, with GoDaddy once again submitting a Google Esque commercial for review. But, having established a reputation, it was harder to get through the Super Bowl censorship process. On his Blog, Parsons lays out the process they went through, and they went up to the wire. 14 Ads were disapproved and Godaddy submitted ad after ad down to the deadline. Although Parsons publicly claims that this wasn't a publicity stunt, odds are that he fully understands the publicity ramifications. Heck, his ads even poke fun at having the commercials rejected.
Having 14 Ads rejected only insures that the process will be well discussed after the SuperBowl and once again insures that people online will flock to see the disapproved ads. Knowing this, GoDaddy has already posted all the disapproved ads and iterations online for review on their site.
